Kira has passed her beginner obedience class, and now has started Companion Dog, which is a manners class geared toward CGC type stuff. She's doing very well in her obedience, although she's still very... "active". :)
Kira and Bosco got to go to Athens, GA for the annual SENR picnic at an offleash dog park there. Both of them did great! Believe it or not, Kira actually got along with all the dogs, particularly another GSD bitch named Kayla. Everyone had a fun time, and I'm very proud of my little girl!!! The only bad thing she did was to eat the leftover hamburgers and hot dogs that were sitting on the picnic table. Thankfully, everyone was done eating. Kira didn't try to get into the food before that point, and that amazes me as well.
Kira and Bosco are getting along alot better now. They're playing pretty often, and not looking like they want to kill each other. :)
Obedience is still progressing well. Kira can sit like lightening! And her down is getting pretty quick too. Heel position is almost there - she's making great progress on that.
Kira also has gotten to the point where I can take both dogs outside at once, having them both sit while I walk through the back door, then I let Kira go, and then I let Bosco go. I didn't start taking them out together until yesterday when they were finally not in kill-each-other mode. Kira is taken out on a Flexi leash, and Bosco goes loose. We don't have a fence, but the main distraction around us is the barn kitty. Bosco and Kira LOVE to chase LP...
We had a breakthrough today... Bosco and Kira PLAYED! Yipee! Bosco did his rearing up and bouncing around thing, and Kira did a playbow. I'm very very happy about that!
We have done a little more work on obedience. Kira works really well for the ball, and she is doing very well with sit, down, and starting to learn heel position. She also is learning to sit and let me walk through the door first when going in and out the back door.
We had our first night with Kira girl. She slept in her new crate, while Bosco was loose in the bedroom as usual. Her first and second raw meals went fine. She LOVES her food.
Bosco and Kira are still playing some dominance games, but are mostly getting along. I just have to tell them to knock it off on occasion. Kira listens very well. These dogs are going to get dizzy, trotting after each other in a circle around the living room, dining room, and kitchen. It's kind of funny to watch them.
We met Kira today at the rescue. Doug and I immediately fell in love with her. Bosco is a little slower to come around, but he just has to learn that she's alpha over him. We had them walking together nicely before we left.
When we got home, we let them work things out a little more outside. Then Bosco went inside and Kira got a BATH. She's been so stressed out living in a kennel situation with lots of other dogs, that she has a poor coat and needs some more weight on her.
Kira and Bosco did pretty well inside together. Kira also did well with the cats, mostly ignoring them. Her nose went ninety miles an hour in the house. I can definitely see the SAR potential in her!
